Summary: The aim of the research project is to investigate the transformation of social democracy in Europe and Lithuania in the late 20th and early 21st century.  The objectives of the research will be to: 1) theoretically articulate the concept of social democracy, demonstrating and highlighting its changes at different stages of the historical development of social democracy; 2) analyse and reconstruct the transformation of international social democracy in Lithuania and Lithuania at the end of the twentieth century and in the twenty-first century. 3) to study the peculiarities (factors, stages, features, tendencies) of the revival and transformation of the expression of social democracy in the post-communist countries; 4) to study the peculiarities (factors, stages, features, tendencies) of the revival and transformation of the expression of social democracy in the post-communist Lithuania; 5) to analyse the transformation of social democracy in the post-communist Lithuania in the period of the present century.  5. to analyse the tendencies and perspectives of the development of Lithuanian and European/global social democracy in the late 1990s – early 1990s.

Outcome: Results of the research project: 2 scientific articles in internationally recognised scientific journals; a scientific study; an article on popularisation of science; a presentation at an international scientific conference. The results of this research would provide in the Lithuanian context new knowledge and insights for political experts (political scientists, political commentators, commentators), public intellectuals, media representatives, politicians (especially social democrats), as well as students, academics and the general public, and would contribute in a very general sense to the improvement of the latter’s state of political culture (as we know, one of the components of political culture is the quality of knowledge about political institutions and the political process).

The project is financed by the European Social Fund under the measure No 09.3.3-LMT-K-712 ‘Development of scientific competence of scientists, other researchers and students through practical scientific activities’ under the activity ‘Promotion of post-doctoral internships’.
