Prof. Dr. Philippe Galez
June 16th, 2023, the Senate of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) by Resolution No. 1SN-32 decided to bestow the title of Honorary MRU Professor on France‘s Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), Chambéry President Philippe Galez. He was recognized for his advancement of progress in higher education, academic exchanges and development of research as well as successful long-term cooperation with MRU.
Prof. Galez began his illustrious academic career in 1988 after graduating from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in 1985. He was awarded a doctorate from the Université Joseph Fourier in 1988. From 1989 he worked as a scientific engineer at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). At the same time he was engaged in academic activities during 1993-2003. He was an Associate Professor of materials science at the Anci Institute of Technology at the University of Savoie-Mont Blance. Since 2003 he is professor of materials science. Prof. Galez is the author and co-author of various scientific publications in the field of materials science.
Since assuming duties at the Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) in 2015, he has held various posts both in academics and in research. He was director of the Annecy Instrumentation and Materials Laboratory from 2001 to 2006, when the Systems and Materials for Mechatronics Laboratory (SYMME) was created, and Head of the Physical Measurements department at the Annecy IUT from 2007 to 2011. In 2012 he became Vice-President of the University and from January 2021 assumed the post of University President. Under his leadership, the joint MRU and Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) “European and International Business Law“ Master‘s programme, implemented over 10 years ago, is continuing operation. Efforts are underway to find further areas of mutual cooperation.
