On December 14, aspiring startup creators will gather at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) for a hackathon. This year’s hackathon is truly special—it marks the first anniversary of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA)! This celebratory event serves as a symbolic way to honor the alliance’s values and collaboration.
The fourth edition of this annual hackathon, held twice a year, brings together 80 to 100 participants from various countries and disciplines, including MRU's Business Management and Startup Building program, international and Lithuanian students, undergraduate and master's students from other programs, as well as professionals from diverse fields such as sports management, business administration, law, communications, economics, and business management. Emerging startup representatives are also warmly welcomed. Around 20% of participants come from universities other than MRU, ensuring a multicultural and interdisciplinary atmosphere.
During this special anniversary hackathon, participants will have 10 hours to collaborate and prototype an innovative idea in a high-energy environment. At the end of the day, teams will present their projects to a panel of seasoned professionals, including investors, startup founders, and industry experts. This year’s theme, as always, will remain a surprise until the event day, adding an extra layer of excitement and creativity. Previous themes have included “Students Hack Vilnius,” “Well-being and Digital Health,” and “Sustainability & Circular Economy”.
Participants will benefit from mentorship and guidance from experienced mentors, including investors, startup founders, and other industry professionals, who will help refine their ideas and overcome challenges. The best teams will be awarded prizes and have opportunities to further develop their ideas beyond the hackathon.
“This hackathon is not only a creative challenge but also a space where diverse experiences, ideas, and cultures converge. Here, participants not only develop innovations but also discover the courage to push boundaries, connect with leaders, and shape visions for the future. Events like these are not just celebrations but investments in the talents of tomorrow,” says the hackathon organizer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Artūras Jurgelevičius, head of the MRU Business Management and Startup Building study program.
The hackathon is open to bachelor’s and master’s students from all fields, as well as representatives from impact-driven startups. No prior hackathon experience is required—only enthusiasm and a team spirit.
Inspiration, new professional connections, and the potential to develop career-defining ideas are just some of the highlights of this extraordinary event. We believe that this wide-reaching participation will be a truly symbolic way to celebrate ERUA’s first anniversary, and we are fully committed to making this idea a success!
