The Dean of MRU Law School appointed to the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights

The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council has appointed Prof. dr. Lyra Jakulevičienė, the Dean of MRU Law School as a member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights. The Working Group consists of five members working with all regions of the world. The group examines individual complaints, promotes the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, prepares reports for the UN Human Rights Council, assesses the situation in various countries around the world and provides recommendations to states on the implementation of human rights in business. Every year, the Group organizes the global Business and Human Rights Forum, which is the world's largest discussion platform for businesses, governments and public organizations to discuss relevant issues in this area. The Working Group was established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2011. Group members act as independent experts.

For many years, Mykolas Romeris University has held scientific-practical conferences on business and human rights and its researchers have conducted scientific research in this field.
 
Prof. dr. L. Jakulevičienė specializes in the field of international and EU law. She has more than 20 years of experience in the field of business and human rights, she is one of the pioneers of responsible business in Lithuania, the founder of various corporate social responsibility initiatives for business, she contributed to the preparation of Lithuania's first corporate social responsibility strategy, national action plans in the field of business and human rights, development of guidelines, training and other initiatives in this area, she constantly promotes the development of this topic in Lithuania and the Central and Eastern European region, has initiated and led regional research and projects in this field, advised state institutions and organizations of various countries on issues of corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and human rights.
              
Prof. dr. L. Jakulevičienė's candidacy was selected from more than ten representatives of various countries through a public competition. The candidacy was approved by the United Nations Human Rights Council. She will take the place of the member from Eastern and Central Europe in the working group. Prof. dr. L. Jakulevičienė commences her duties on August 1.
