May 18th, 2017, singer songwriter Raminta Naujanytė Bjelle and poet Vainius Bakas performed, sang, recited poetry at the Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Library.
With her silky smooth voice, Bjelle sang one lyrical melody after another - some while strumming the guitar or playing the electrical Yamaha piano. She composed some of the songs using poetry written by Bakas. Other songs were her own creations, but each sung with heartfelt emotion.
Vainius Bakas, who is the recipient of the Jonas Aistis Literature Prize for his latest poetry book, recited some new, some older poems from his collections. His last poetry book, published in 2016, is "Kaštonų tonai."
Bakas said that as a believer and Catholic, much of his poetry is influenced by his faith. The last poem that he read was "The Last Supper" (Paskutinė vakarienė).
The hour-long concert, poetry recital, left librarians, staff and academics mesmerized.
The poetry reading was part of the spring Poetry Festival 2017 event that is now underway in Lithuania.
