Oct. 29th, 2015, Hamline University Prof. David Schultz from the U.S. began presenting a series of lectures on U.S. election law at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

Prof. Schultz, from St. Paul, Minnesota, spent 3 weeks at MRU under the auspices of the Fulbright programme.

He lectured briefly at MRU in 2008 right before the election of current U.S. President Barack Obama to his first term in office.

Having just published a book on election law in the U.S. that he co-authored, "Presidential Swing States: Why Only Ten Matter," he said he enjoys discussing the upcoming U.S. election and candidates with students.

He has returned to MRU and Vilnius because "everybody was so friendly" the last time, he added.

"It's a part of the world I feel close to because my family is from here," said Prof. Schultz adding that he has roots in Slovakia and some Polish and Slovak connections as well.

He praised Lithuania's transition to a post communist democratic society.

"Lithuania is one of the better examples of a country that made an incredibly good transition from communist to a post-communist democratic society," he said.

He said in the future he plans to write a book about Lithuania's successful "transition" and what it has done right.

"I'm seeing a competitive parliamentary democracy where we have a pretty stable record on human rights," he said.
