April 14th, 2015, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Paulo Alexandre da Silva Pereira was awarded the 2015 Outstanding Young Scientist Award in Vienna by the largest geoscience association in the world, the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
Prof. Pereira was recognized in the Soil System Sciences (SSS) division.
The award takes into account Prof. Pereira's contribution to characterising the chemistry of soils affected by forest fires on Mediterranean and temperate climates and the role ash plays in the recovery of the soil properties after wildfires and prescribed fires.
Prof. Pereira received the Award at the EGU 2015 General Assembly, which took place in Vienna from April 12th-17th, 2015.
Winners of the Awards and EGU Medals, who come from European and non-European countries, are recognized for their contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences.
Pereira, head of the MRU Environmental Management Centre, is a Professor in MRU's Faculty of Politics & Management, in the Institute of Public Administration.
