Oct. 3rd, 2016, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated MRU student, Rio de Janeiro Olympic silver-medal winner rower Mindaugas Griškonis. He was decorated with the Grand Cross of the Order for Merits to Lithuania. President Grybauskaitė expressed her appreciation for the accomplishment of athletes who won medals at Rio de Janeiro. "The moments, which unite people, decorate our lives. We always need heroes and during these times, athletes often become them," she noted. Rowers Mindaugas Griškonis and his rowing partner, Saulius Ritteris, won silver medals at Brazil's Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Games in the Men's Double Sculls rowing event in August 2016.
