Italy's University of Pavia Language studies graduate Ivan Aimi has arrived at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) this week to begin a 3-month Erasmus+ Traineeship in the International Office.

Having graduated from one of Europe's oldest universities - University of Pavia (established in 1361), he says that the architecture of buildings at MRU is different than in Italy.

The Faculty of Languages is in the city centre of Pavia, in historical buildings. At MRU everything is completely different and more new, he said.

WiFi is everywhere here at the university. In Italy at my university, we have WiFi, but it is not really working, he added.

Having just arrived at MRU and Vilnius, he has not formed enough impressions yet of the city. However, the sunny weather was rather surprising, he said.

"I came here on Monday (April 10th, 2017) and it was warm and I was disappointed," said Aimi, who likes cooler weather. He was expecting cold, dreary skies, but temperatures hit about 20 C on Monday with sunny skies.

"My mentor told me that it's very cold here. In my dorm, I have a lot of heavy clothes. Maybe, I will plan some travel - go to Norway," he added, where the warmer clothing would come in handy.

Interested in history and global affairs, Aimi wrote his Bachelor's thesis on "The Socio-Economical Relationship Between Russia and North Korea" with a summary in Russian.

Having studied languages, he said he plans to pursue Master's Degree studies in the future, perhaps in Milan. He also would like to use some of his time while in Vilnius to travel to Iceland, nearby Poland, Estonia, perhaps Belarus.

"First of all, I want to visit Lithuania," he said.

As an Italian, who likes good coffee, he said he brought some ground Italian Lavazza coffee to Vilnius from home.

He said he has already tried MRU's "Coffee Hill" cafe coffee and that it's not bad. If he runs out of his Lavazza by July when he is due to depart, he knows where to go.
