Photographer Jonas Komka Opened Camino Photo Exhibit March 15th

March 15th, 2018, in MRU's 2nd floor foyer of the II wing, photographer Jonas Komka opened his photography exhibit, "Faces of Camino: Gone for a Walk."

Last May 2017, Komka decided to go for a walk, and walked the famous El Camino to Santiago de Compostela. Armed with his Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus phone, he photographed pilgrims he met on the way.

Komka ended up walking 799 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to the Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela.

The exhibit, "Gone for a Walk" is the result of his month-long journey and chronicles the pilgrims and people he met along the way. Over 20 of the about 50 photographed pilgrims are on display.

"I was looking for new experiences, new faces, to spend time with a world, together with all and yet all alone in silence by myself," says the young photographer. "I have met a world, lives of people living in it, stories that change stubborn misconceptions, thinking errors."

Komka says that the photo exhibit contains only some of the pilgrims that he photographed. Photos of pilgrims were those "which got more stuck with me and which had more influence to my time on the Camino," he said.

"Every human is a different story and walking the Camino always has a reason," Komka notes.

The photo exhibition will be on display at MRU until April 4th, 2018.
