MRU Vice-Rector Žalėnienė Elected to IAU Board
Nov. 13th-16th, 2016, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Dr. Inga Žalėnienė attended the 15th International Association of Universities (IAU) General Conference in Bangkok where she was elected a full member of the IAU Board. The IAU, which unites 600 universities world-wide, held its conference, "Higher Education: A Catalyst for Innovative and Sustainable Societies," at the Chulalongkorn University in Thailand this month. Every four years IAU members elect new management and board members. This year MRU Vice-Rector Žalėnienė was also a candidate for the board. More than 400 members participated and cast ballots. Dr. Žalėnienė, will sit on the IAU Board's Europe section with 5 other board members from countries as varied as Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Romania. Other Europe section board members represent University College Dublin; Otto-Friedrich-Universitat Bamberg, Germany; University of Porto; Romania's National School of Political and Administrative Studies, and Spain's University of Salamanca. Žalėnienė was elected to a 4-year term. She is the only member in the IAU's board from not only Lithuania, but also the Baltic States. "Being on the board opens possibilities for closer cooperation among various universities throughout the world, which we will try to utilize more effectively," said Dr. Žalėnienė.
