May 31st, 2018, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Lithuania (VRM), and the Education and Science Ministry signed an agreement establishing a Public Security Academy. The Academy, in conjunction with VRM subordinate professional training institutions, will assure the unity of preparation of professionals and will create conditions for lifelong learning. This Academy will be established on the basis of MRU's Public Security Faculty joining together MRU and VGTU and utilising the potential of both universities faculties, institutes, schools, centres, laboratories and academic and research units. In addition, it is planned that the Academy will undertake necessary continuous learning and research activities, according to research areas foreseen by VRM. Learning and training by officials and qualification training would be undertaken by the new Academy. New studies programmes will be created and established in cooperation with VRM thus assuring a proper preparation of specialists.
