Over a dozen Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) students have won Japan's One Asia Foundation scholarships, after winning an essay competition.

During the fall semester, MRU students have been attending the "Introductory Course to East Asian Community: Cultural, Political and Economic Aspects," on campus.

Essay topics were related to Asia, Japan and International Relations.

Top winning essays were written by Elisabetta, Ugnė, Yurii and Constantin.

Law student Elisabetta won writing on "The Impact of Apology Statements Issued by Japan to East Asian International Relations," which was cited by judges as "a very original essay."

MRU student Ugnė wrote on "What Does It Mean That East Asia is Living Out the Enlightenment?" which was cited for "strong presentation, independent and original thinking."

Yurii won a scholarship for his essay, "State Capitalism in Asia: Growth Driver or a Brake Selected Countries' Cases" which got the highest marks for "strong and original presentation" and a high level of critical analysis.

Economics student Constantin, like the other 3 students, got the highest mark 10. He was cited for writing a "very original essay" on "State Capitalism in China: A Growth Driver or a Brake?"

Other essay competition winners include: Economics student Anca, Social Sciences student Anna, Economics student Fabrizio, Economics student Jannik, and students Mengjuan, Divides, Erika, Mara, Maria, Tingting and Mayumi.

All 15 scholarship winners will be awarded their monetary scholarships during a ceremony on Dec. 18th on campus.
