May 8th, 2023, in Palanga, representatives of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) discussed new areas of cooperation with University alumni from the Klaipėda region. New study and scientific innovations at the university were presented. MRU alumni, who are developing their careers in the Klaipėda region, were invited to continue participating in University community activities thus passing on their knowledge and experience to the younger generation.
University Rector Prof. Inga Žalėnienė and MRU academics met with alumni of the Klaipėda region at the Educational Center of the M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts in Palanga. Alumni had the opportunity to discuss the strategic development of MRU with the University management and enunciate their concerns with deans of MRU faculties and other representatives of the MRU community.
"The discussions about what kind of university we want to see in the future are gaining momentum. Strategic discussions about the strategic directions of our university's development are gaining momentum, so the opinion of our alumni, based on personal study and career experience, is very important to us," said MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Zalėnienė.
The latest study programs, intended not only for students still seeking a higher education diploma, but also for working professionals who want to acquire new knowledge and qualifications, were presented by the Public Security Academy Dean Prof. Dr. Snieguolė Matulienė, Law School Dean Prof. Dr. Lyra Jakulevičienė, Human and Social Studies Dean Prof. Odeta Merfeldaitė, Public Management Institute Director of the Faculty of Public Management and Business Prof. Dr. Andrius Stasiukynas. The meeting was moderated by Public Law Institute Law School Assoc. Prof. Inga Daukšienė, who is Head of MRU's Legal and Public Procurement Service.
In an open and sincere conversation with representatives of the MRU academic community and administration, new opportunities for collaboration, study and work practice interaction were discussed. Alumni invited students to do internships in the institutions they represent. They were interested in the possibility of participating in the mentoring program. At the meeting, the alumni reminisced about their time as students, met with former colleagues, classmates and teachers.
Many MRU alumni have successful careers in public or business companies or have started their own businesses. MRU lecturers and administrative staff have already had time to meet University alumni working in Marijampolė, Utena and Panevėžys, who are successfully climbing the professional career ladder.
It is expected that in the long run that regional MRU alumni clubs will form and the activities will provide a new impetus to further improve the quality of studies taking into account the needs of employers, as well as to carry out regionally relevant scientific research.
