Mykolas Romeris University International and European Union Law Institute Prof. Danutė Jočienė has been appointed head of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania. Jočienė has become the first woman to chair the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania.
She was born on Nov. 10th, 1970 in the area of Mažeikiai. In 1994, she graduated from the Vilnius University Law Faculty. After 5 years, at the same University, she defended her doctoral thesis. In 1994-2003 she lectured at the Vilnius University Law Faculty. From 2014, she lectures and is a professor at the Mykolas Romeris University Law School.
In her research, Prof. Jočienė has afforded the most attention to the areas of human rights, international agreements, international organization law as well as international legal principles and constitutional law. From 2003-2004 Jočienė was a representative of the Government in the European Court of Human Rights. She was a justice of the European Court of Human Rights from 2004-2013.
Jočienė is also an expert of the Council of Europe and participates in the European programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals, HELP, and other European Council programmes, various other EU programmes and international judges' teaching networks. She is an expert of the European Administrative Court Association, a presenter and a member of the working group.
