MRU GRADS: Two Brothers from Nigeria & One Dream

Jan. 27th, 2016, sleepless nights, studies, and hard work paid off for two Nigerian brothers united in their quest for knowledge.

Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Rector Assoc. Prof. Algirdas Monkevičius awarded Master's Degree diplomas to Stephen Onajite Williams (Financial Markets) and to his younger brother, singer and actor Daniel "Oke" Williams (Business Informatics).

"It's perfect," said the 28-year-old Onajite Williams about graduation. "I worked for it," he added speaking of his 2nd MRU Degree. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (2014).

In fact, over the years Onajite was frequently visible in MRU's Library studying and reading.

His younger brother, Oke Williams, spent his leisure moments with the MRU Jazz Band led by Vytautas Čepėnas, who was at the graduation ceremony to congratulate him.

Oke was the lead singer for the MRU Jazz Band and over the years performed at University events and functions wearing his trademark red-rimmed glasses.

Čepėnas said he will miss Oke Williams, as he was punctual, reliable and kept his word. If he said he was going to do something, he did it, the Jazz Band leader explained.

In an early interview with MRU News when he began his studies, Oke Williams said he was happy that the MRU Library is open nights.

He also photographed MRU's green park where he liked to sit outside in the summer months and listen to the chirping birds. "It helps to relax my mind so I can go back and study," said the then 23-year-old Nigerian.

Oke said he has no plans as of yet. After graduation, Onajite is heading for Miami where he plans to work.

The two graduates posed for pictures with fellow Nigerian students, lecturers and professors after the graduation ceremony. Oke, ever popular, was given several gifts including a box of chocolates and a small souvenir of Vilnius to stick on the refrigerator door.
