MRU Debate Club Held Discussion on Democracy @ National Library
September 15th, 2016, MRU's Debate Club held a discussion on Western Democracy, Its Future and the Global Challenges at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (Gedimino pr. 51). It was the first time the event was held at the National Library. MRU Politics and Management Faculty Dean Prof. Virginijus Valentinavičius participated and cited U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. He said that only free people can create a fully-fledged democratic government. He was joined by radio "Žinių radijas" journalist and host Aurimas Perednis and Eastern Europe Studies Centre Head Linas Kojala. They all defended democracy and its future. Radio host Perednis spoke optimistically saying that good times await Europe thanks to the social media and all the outlets available to express opinions and exchange ideas. MRU Debate Club President Rokas Daugirdas moderated the debate. Other participants included: MRU Debate Club member Deividas Razminas, MRU Assoc. Prof. Mantas Bileišis and Stockholm School of Economics in Riga graduate Gediminas Užkuraitis.
