Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Public Governance and Business Faculty student chess grandmaster Paulius Pultinevičius has made the list as one of the top 10 Lithuanian student athletes of 2022 ranking 6th.
This is an extremely high-level achievement, considering that he competed with such athletes as swimmer Rūta Meilutytė (1st place) and boxer Eimantas Stanionis (5th place).
About Paulius Pultinevičius:
He started playing in the MRU Chess team in the 12th grade. This is currently Pultinevičius’ third season in the MRU team;
He hails from Marijampolė and studied at the Rygiškės Jono high school.
Paulius Pultinevičius’ achievements:
He became a grandmaster while still at school. In the history of independent Lithuania, no one has managed to do this among men;
He is the winner and prize-winner of many international tournaments;
At the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India, Pultinevičius won 2nd place in the individual standings;
He won two gold medals at the EUSA (European University Sports Association) games. He won 1st place in the individual lightning chess ranking and 1st place in the team ranking of the MRU team, so two gold medals in total;
He won two gold medals at the SELL (Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) student games. One gold medal was won in the individual competition, the other was won by the MRU team in the team competition;
In 2022 he was the Lithuanian Student Rapid Chess champion in both individual and team standings of the MRU team.
