Dec. 14th-16th, 2022, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law School Dean Prof. Dr. Lyra Jakulevičienė participated in the annual European Union (EU) Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) meeting. Representatives considered issues relating to the drafting of a new FRA activity strategy, focused on assessing the consequences of Russian aggression in Ukraine on human rights in Europe and the forming of a new FRA Scientific Committee, etc.
Prof. Lyra Jakulevičienė was elected a member of the FRA Executive Board replacing a member from Ireland. The Executive Board helps the Management Board to prepare decisions and advises the Agency‘s Director. Prof. Jakulevičienė is also a member of the FRA Management Board, and sits on the agency's committee, which oversees preparation of the annual human rights report (from 2020) and is a member of the Strategy working group (since 2022).
The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights was established in 2007. Its goal is to provide fundamental rights-related assistance and expert knowledge to EU institutions, bodies, services, agencies, and EU-member states in their implementation of EU Law.
The main function of the Agency is to collect and publish relevant, objective, reliable and comparable information and data on the situation of fundamental rights in all EU countries in accordance with EU law. The Agency also promotes dialogue with civil society in order to raise public awareness of fundamental rights and disseminate information about its activities.
