Lithuania's Seimas Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis is recommending Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Prof. Milda Vainiūtė to the post of Seimas Ombudsman.

She would replace Raimondas Šukys, whose 5-year term ended earlier this year.

The Seimas Ombudsman is responsible for defending the protection of human rights and freedoms, investigating complaints regarding officials' actions and seeking to promote public dialogue in order that civil servants would better serve the people.

Vainiūtė is a former Minister of Justice in Lithuania. She is a professor in the MRU School of Law's Institute of Public Law.
