October 21st, 2021, Justice Minister Evelina Dobrovolska awarded Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Prof. Vytautas Sinkevičius with the 1st Degree Order of Merit "For Merits to Justice."
"Soon we will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the Constitution of Independent Lithuania. That is not only a great opportunity to try and take the Constitution examination, of which Prof. Vytautas Sinkevičius is a member, but also to honour a prominent personality who contributed to the Constitution - the development of the basic law of the state, legal education initiatives, paying special attention to democracy, the rule of law, respect for the rights of the individual and the values of establishing justice," said Minister Dobrovolska.
According to Prof. Sinkevičius, the drafting of the Constitution was a considerable challenge. Within 4 days, with several colleagues, it was necessary to prepare the most suitable version of the two projects. The fundamental, universal values enshrined in today's Constitution are like a treaty of society, according to which the nation, by adopting the Constitution, agrees to live. The Constitution regulates all the main areas of human, social and government life. Each of us is confronted with the Constitution on a daily basis, so it is very important to know it as well as possible, as this not only helps us to understand how the authorities work, but also helps us to use the Constitution when we have to defend our violated rights and freedoms.
The current Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania was adopted Oct. 25th, 1992 in a referendum.
This year the Constitutional exam will be held on Oct. 25th.
