MRU Implementing 2021-2023 Strategy for Sustainable Development

Every month of this academic year is dedicated to different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In November we focus on gender equality (SDG5) and Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6). At the end of October, the Mykolas Romeris University Senate approved the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.

Nov. 18th, 4p.m., let‘s watch the Italian documentary, "Climate Limbo" together in MRU's I-414 aud. The documentary raises awareness on themes like migration and climate change dealt with by Italy during the preparatory events of Climate Change Conference COP26. Through the stories of Queen, who fled Nigeria because of the damage caused by oil on the environment, and Rubel, who fled the floods in Bangladesh, and Francesco, the issues start to take shape. Also, Luigi and Carlotta, Italian farmers and breeders facing the problem of desertification and loss of biodiversity in Italy, share their thoughts. The film aims to document how climate change will push more and more people off their land. Directed by Elena Brunello, Paolo Caselli ir Francesco Ferri. The documentary will be screened at the Prof. Maksimaitis Conference Room (I-414).

On November 25th, the MRU team will participate in the Sustainable Brain Battle in Kaunas that is held by the Green Policy Institute and the Netherlands Embassy in Vilnius. We invite you to join and support MRU team! Please register here.

In November, we invite you to pay more attention to equal opportunities and diversity. During coffee breaks, let’s talk to family, friends, and colleagues on how we understand equality and diversity, what does it mean to us personally? What can we do to make our colleagues, students, friends and acquaintances feel good, loved and accepted in our environment? Maybe someone needs a helping hand or encouragement?

Let’s also talk about the impact of water on our lives. What is good quality water? What can we do to ensure that future generations have clean water? Shall we turn off the tap when we are not using water? Maybe when heating a teapot (we'll probably do it more often when the weather is getting colder), let's just pour as much water as needed and not more?

On the last Friday in November, let’s celebrate "Day Without a Car." Let’s leave the cars at home and come to the university on foot (all or at least part of the way), hike or take the bike.
