International Judges’ Visit at MRU: Focus on Children’s Rights Protection
Law School

From October 23 to 25, the MRU Law School was hosting a visit from the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates (IAYFJM or AIMJF), with a particular focus on children’s rights protection. During the visit, judges and magistrates from seven countries (Brazil, the USA, Croatia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany), along with Lithuanian family law and juvenile justice specialists, discussed the situation in the country, shared their experiences, and examined issues related to the protection of children’s rights. AIMJF also visited Lithuanian courts, the Vilnius City Municipality, and the Child Support Center.

AIMJF is a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the Council of Europe and is associated with the Department of Public Information. This organization, founded in 1928, aims to establish global connections between judges from different countries and other international organizations that specialize in the protection of youth and family rights.

Study visits provide an opportunity for judges and magistrates from around the world to gain practical experience and encourage local judges to communicate with colleagues from other countries on pressing issues. These visits offer insights into local legal systems within the context of juvenile justice and the protection of children’s rights.
