The academic community of Mykolas Romeris University expresses its sincere condolences to Lithuania's former President and MRU Honorary Doctor Valdas Adamkus for the loss of his wife.

When Lithuania elected Valdas Adamkus its President, it also chose his partner Alma Adamkienė, who undertook the duties of the First Lady, although they are not officially outlined in the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.

First Lady Adamkienė managed to remain invisible in the ensuing political storms. However, she played a significant role in the life of Lithuania's society with her charitable activities including support for children, education, health care and respect of human rights.

With her innate elegance, empathy and wisdom, Adamkienė charmed all those she met - children and all the citizens of Lithuania who sought a free, open, and world-respected Lithuania.

The First Lady, together with President Adamkus, earned the respect of famous politicians and heads of state throughout the world for exceptional understanding of statehood, honor and duty.

Dear Valdas Adamkus, we sincerely sympathize with you regarding the loss of your beloved wife, Alma Adamkienė. Her works, her sincere love for Lithuania and its people will remain in our hearts and in our memories.
