European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) Seminar: “Universities as Change Agents to Create Gender-Based Violations-Free Society”

On October 29, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will host the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) seminar "Universities as Change Agents to Create Gender-Based Violations-Free Society".

The seminar aims to discuss how universities, by strengthening their organizational culture and implementing training and lifelong learning programs, can contribute to ensuring gender equality and shaping more inclusive, sensitive, and diversity-valuing societies.

Gender-based violence has become a subtle yet widespread problem, manifesting in various forms, from physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence to harmful organizational norms and behavior. As reflections of society, universities are uniquely positioned to address this issue. Historically, universities have served as educational institutions, but they can have a broader impact, by raising awareness, integrating the issue of gender-based violence into their curricula, conducting research, and disseminating findings, they can transform both academic communities and society as a whole.

The seminar will feature presentations from scholars from various countries: EWORA President Prof. Kerstin Tham, Prof. Isabel Gil from the Catholic University of Portugal, Prof. Beth Stroble from Webster University, as well as MRU scholars Dr. Vilana Pilinkaitė-Sotirovič and Dr. Ramunė Jakštienė.

This seminar will provide a platform for academics, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss strategies on how universities can help reduce gender-based violence and create a safer and more inclusive society.

The event will take place in Auditorium I-414 from 9:00 AM. For those unable to attend in person, the seminar will be live-streamed on YouTube.
