In order to achieve our goals and to be successful, we need to overcome a number of obstacles and never give up even after failures. This is perfectly illustrated by Mykolas Romeris University's team, which for many years didn’t stop pursuing its dream – to win funding for the prestigious Erasmus Mundus project, so that joint studies “Social Work with Children and Youth” (ESWOCHY) could see the light of the day and become the first study programme of such level in Lithuania. This however is not only the good news, but also an obligation. Firstly, because these studies are implemented together with partner institutions: Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), Rīga Stradiņš University (Latvia), Catholic University in Ružomberok (Slovakia) and the University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal). This way not only content of studies is created, but also a thorough selection of students are carried out, ensuring that they represent multiple countries: Italy, Bangladesh, Philippines, Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ghana, Kirgizia, Mauritius, Indonesia, Finland and even USA.

ESWOCHY Students  Become Love Immigrants

The aim of this studies programme is very noble, because it will help to prepare a group of qualified specialists of social work, who could work with children and youth in any country of the world, and at the same time get international experience, while studying each semester in a different country of every partner university. Their journey will start in Lithuania; afterward studies will move to Latvia and Slovakia and finally end up in Portugal. This way ESWOCHY students will have a chance not only to get to know the peculiarities of social work in each country, but they also will be able to meet people from various cultures, make friends and build relationships. These experiences will remind them about their studies for the rest of their lives. Here are the thoughts of Slovakia's Ambassador Ladislav Babchan based in Latvia:

“In September I started working as ambassador and back then we didn't have many housework cases, we had problems like people losing documents…Now we are getting this kind of console issue from young people, for example: Well, I studied in Lithuania and I’m going to get married to this guy…. And this is not like one or two cases now. So, this is a very nice aspect of the whole situation. People are not only studying abroad, they often get married there. Studies in other countries are life changing”.

So, we can make a definite conclusion, that the ESWOCHY study programme not only provides a great education, an international diploma, but it also can influence destinies of students, turning them into love immigrants.
