May 12th, 2023, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law School Dean Lyra Jakulevičienė delivered the Welcome Address and opened the 6th annual Polish-Lithuanian Conference, "Public Law Challenges in Eastern and Central European Countries" held on MRU's campus.
She was joined by Poland's University of Warmia and Mazury Faculty of Law and Administration Dean Prof. dr. Jarosław Dobkowski who also delivered a Welcome Address.
Both deans noted the close ties of Lithuania and Poland and the challenges that have arisen in the last several years in both countries relating to issues of migration, security, and adhering to good administration principles. Dean Prof. Jakulevičienė emphasized that cooperation between the two countries is of exceptional importance in the context of various crises that have arisen.
Academics from Poland's Warmia and Mazury University's Faculty of Law and Administration participated in the Seminar along with professors from Slovakia's Comenius University Bratislava and MRU's Law School academics and legal scholars.
Conference participants discussed relevant topics relating to administrative and international law as well as public law in Eastern and Central European countries. Topics covered included: constitutional values, legal history, the procedure for dismissing judges, elections during a pandemic, migration, the search for an ideal state form, the mechanism of local self-government authorities, codification of administrative responsibility, legal regulation of energy, sign language, quasi-judicial institutions, territorial planning, consumer complaints, the right to be forgotten, insurance, and waste management.
Each year this Conference is organized by Poland's Warmia and Mazury Faculty of Law and Administration Law Lecturer Dorota Lis-Staranovič and MRU Law School Public Law Institute Prof. Ieva Deviatnikovaitė and the Team.
