Law School

The European Company Case Law (ECCL) is delighted to announce its 7th ECCL Symposium, set to take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law School in Vilnius, Lithuania. This highly anticipated event will bring together legal experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss one of the most pressing issues in corporate governance: direct claims of shareholders and third parties against directors.

This international conference will provide a comprehensive analysis of director liability across different jurisdictions, offering valuable insights into the evolving legal landscape. Attendees will gain perspectives on key issues such as:

  • Trends in director personal liability in English case law
  • Shareholder claims for direct vs. reflexive loss
  • Comparative approaches from Lithuania, France, Japan, Austria, and Germany
  • Directors’ duties and liabilities in the context of sustainability
  • Oversight liability and third-party claims

Renowned experts from across Europe and beyond will share their research and expertise, making this symposium a must-attend event for legal professionals involved in corporate, financial, and insolvency law. Speakers include esteemed academics from institutions such as the University of Southampton, University of Lisbon, Université Paris-Est Créteil, University of Ghent, Waseda University, and more.

The 7th ECCL Symposium is hosted by the Law School of Mykolas Romeris University and will be held in English in a hybrid format. While online participation is available, we encourage attendees to join us in person to experience the vibrant city of Vilnius – the European Green Capital for 2025. Vilnius’ picturesque old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides the perfect backdrop for insightful discussions and networking opportunities.

This symposium is made possible through the generous support of Sorainen and Partners and Go Vilnius.

Please register for this symposium, and the conference programme can be found here.
