Project title: „New Media Communication and Journalism in the Era of Disinformation“.
Project duration: from 2022-03-01 to 2023-04-30.
Project coordinator: Mykolas Romeris University
Project manager: Rūta Latinytė, ruta_latinyte@mruni.eu
Summary: The aim of the project is to create a course “Journalism in the Era of Disinformation” at Mykolas Romeris University, aimed at future media professionals, which could also be used as a free elective course for students from other disciplines, who are interested in disinformation topics in this digital age. Ethnic minorities and vulnerable groups, who are particularly vulnerable to disinformation and propaganda, should be given the opportunity to participate in this course. The aim of the “Journalism in an era of disinformation” training course is not only to train better journalists, but also to make them media literacy educators and advocates. The training will give students the opportunity to learn how misinformation, manipulation of information, hate speech, etc. negatively affect audiences and lead them to make certain decisions. The course will be based on the “Learn to Discern (L2D)” methodology, approach and tools.
The project is funded by the US State Department Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) under the Media Literacy in the Baltics programme.
