Summary: Economic growth and jobs creation are one of the key objectives of the European Union’s economic policy. In order to remain a competitive economic area in today’s world, itis necessary to create added value, based on technology. Innovative start-ups play a key role in this process through technological progress. Much research and practice focuses on building national startup ecosystems. Meanwhile, there is a lack of scientific works on student entrepreneurship and the formation of startup ecosystems at university level, although the role and importance of universities in the technological progress of society is generally and widely recognized.
Therefore, it is important to systematically and consistently study what factors and environment are the most favorable and decisive for the creation of startups and their growth in the university. The aim of the work is to propose a framework for the development of the startup ecosystem at the university level after researching startup ecosystems adopted by universities. Scientific work is more challenging when analyzing social science focused universities because in most of the cases start-ups are technology based ventures.
This research project will provide a deep understanding of the university’s role in fostering student entrepreneurship and it is useful for the academic and professional community. Additionally, it is original because it highlights the future directions of entrepreneurship and start-up development adopted by universities to help students in the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and renewal of the structure of our economies.
