January 13th – the Day of the Defenders of Freedom of Lithuania

On the night of January 13, 1991, Soviet troops attempted to seize power just months after Lithuania declared its independence. Thousands of unarmed Lithuanian citizens stood in the cold, singing as they faced the advancing tanks. That night, 14 people were killed, and almost 1,000 were wounded.
An exhibition at the MRU Library is dedicated to commemorating this historic day and drawing attention to courage of Lithuanian people.
