Project duration: from 2020-04-14 to 2024-04-31.

Summary: Some of the most significant challenges to modern societies stem from the rapid development of automation. While automation creates the preconditions for freedom from hard and unfulfilling forms of work, it is crucial to philosophically assess the ethical and social challenges to this promise of freedom from work. In order to critically reflect on the challenges of automation, the study proposes an original philosophical approach combining contemporary Aristotelianism and critical theory.
The aim of the study is to reflect theoretically on the challenges of automation for work as a creative activity in terms of human flourishing. To achieve this goal, three objectives are set. 1. 1. 2. to theoretically conceptualise, from an Aristotelian perspective, the notion of alienated labour as a meaningful and productive activity in the context of today’s capitalism. 3. Identification and critical analysis of the ethical and political challenges generated by automation.
The project is carried out under the Lithuanian Research Council-funded activity “Research Group Projects”.
