Feb. 9th, the exhibition, "Law and Duty: Elections to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania 1920-1940" will open in MRU's Rotunda Hall (Ateities St. 20). The exhibition is part of a series of exhibits dedicated to marking the centenary of Lithuania and the modern Lithuanian parliamentary tradition of the last 100 years.
"Democratic elections in a country are one of the most important tasks of citizens," wrote one of Lithuania's most esteemed parliamentarians, a member of the Founding Seimas Mykolas Krupavičius.
"In places where the country is ruled by kings or other rulers with no term limits, they think and act on behalf of their citizens. In some countries it is forbidden for citizens to think about their country's affairs. But there where the king's crown is removed and placed on the entire nation, then the worries and challenges are on the entire nation......" wrote Krupavičius.
The exhibition will showcase photographs and documents from various museums including the Alytus, Biržai Kretinga, and Kaunas City museums along with the Kaunas Technology University Library as well as the Martynas Mažvydas Library and many others. Many of the artifacts and documents displayed come from the archives of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
The exhibit will be on display from Feb. 9th-March 11th at Mykolas Romeris University.
