Summary: the main objective of the project is to raise awareness of personal data protection in the fields of journalism, social media and academia. Freedom of expression on social networks has brought new challenges to individual rights, especially the protection of personal data. Often, users (content creators) of Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Discord, Tik Tok, etc., boldly disseminate information and publish data without thinking about the fact that they may be considered as producers (disseminators)/controllers (processors) of public information and responsible for the legality of the information published on their accounts. The Office of the Inspector of Journalists’ Ethics (OJEI) is increasingly receiving complaints about the publication of personal data on social networks. During the project, researchers from the Office of the Inspector of Journalists’ Ethics and Mykolas Romeris University will develop and present key guidelines on what to look out for when sharing information on social networks, what can lead to violations of personal data processing and where to go for advice in case of uncertainties.
