Project title: ‘Harmonisation of due diligence requirements for corporate sustainability in European Union law’
Project duration: from 03.10.2023 to 30.04.2024
Project leader: Dr. Darius Bolzanas
Student: Oksana Panichkovska
About the project: The study will examine the requirements for corporate sustainability due diligence and the problems of their implementation in European Union law. In a global business environment, where companies often operate in different Member States of the European Union, there is a need to ensure the proper implementation of sustainability requirements. The study will assess what are the requirements of sustainable business and what are the means to ensure their proper implementation in the course of business activities. The study will seek to determine whether existing and proposed new European
EU law requirements and procedures for due diligence on corporate sustainability are effective, meet the objectives of the protection of individual rights and strike the right balance between the sustainability requirements for companies and the objectives pursued. The study will focus on the analysis and assessment of the proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on corporate sustainability due diligence, published by the European Commission on 23 February 2022, amending Directive (EU) 2019/1937, which seeks to establish common standards on sustainable business conduct for companies operating in the EU. The study will shed light on the sustainable business measures set out in this legislation and on the main challenges that may arise in the implementation of its measures.
The project is funded by the Lithuanian Research Council under the Student Research Semesters programme.
