Climate Fresk Workshop at MRU: How a Game Can Change Perspectives on the Planet’s Future

On December 3, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) hosted the Climate Fresk workshop – a unique, interactive event where a board game shed new light on climate issues in an engaging and thought-provoking way. This globally recognized method, developed in France in 2018, has already brought together over 1.2 million people worldwide and has now reached the MRU community.

The workshop welcomed not only university students and staff but also local community members. Together, they gathered not just to learn more about climate change but also to explore solutions for protecting our planet. Working in teams, participants tackled challenges, connected facts, and discussed how human activities impact our world.

The main task – arranging 42 cards into a logical and scientifically grounded collage – revealed the connections between the causes of climate change, human impact on nature, and its social and economic consequences. Yet, this was only the beginning.

The workshop was divided into three stages. First, through the game, participants delved into the causes and effects of climate change. In the second stage, during a reflection session, they shared their emotions upon confronting the scale of the issue and discussed changes they already observed around them. Finally, the third stage united participants in discussions about actions – at both individual and organizational levels – to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

“This workshop is more than just a game. It’s a journey that helps people not only understand complex scientific facts but also discover their role in addressing climate change. Through communication and discussion, real ideas and actions emerge that can shape our future,” said Dr. Nomeda Gudelienė, MRU Advisor for Sustainable Development and a Climate Pact Ambassador.

The event organizers also emphasized that the Climate Fresk is an opportunity to turn scientific facts into a visual and inspiring process that not only fosters understanding but also motivates people to act. The workshop inspired participants to change their behavior and become active agents of change.

This initiative once again demonstrated MRU’s commitment to promoting sustainability through education, creativity, and collaboration. The university strives to create a space where everyone can contribute to building a responsible society and a sustainable future.

The Climate Fresk workshop serves as a reminder that change begins with us. MRU invites everyone concerned about the future of our planet to join upcoming events and work together to find solutions that can protect our world!
