December 15th, 2022, the “MRU Caravan for Ukraine” departed with loads of food, canned goods, water, other non-perishable items and wooden socks for Ukrainian troops fighting on the frontlines in Ukraine.
MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė, MRU Law School researcher and Baltic-Ukrainian Fund coordinator Olha Bodnar-Petrovska participated along with the Vilnius Services Business Vocational Training Centre Library Director Gintarė Naprienė, International Charity Fund "Pagalbos Sparnas“ Head Algis Šimoniūtis and the Trakai Handicapped Centre Director Juozas Norinkevičius.
MRU students, lecturers, administrative staff and others spent several weeks collecting the goods and various types of aid. Members of the Didlaukis academic community also participated. The Didlaukis academic community now houses probably what is the largest Ukrainian war refugee centre in Lithuania as well as Ukrainian School "Gravitas Schola" pupils who use MRU facilities.
Among the gifts for the Ukrainian troops were a van filled with water, non-perishable food items, chocolates, candies as well as boots, cold medicine, small tents, carpets and winter sleeping bags along with cat and dog food (for the animals living in the trenches with Ukrainian troops). There was also a box filled with men's socks and mittens.
Members of the Didlaukis academic community - from the Vilnius Services Business Vocational Training Centre knitted wooden socks for the Ukrainian troops and added blankets and food products.
