Dec. 15th, 2016, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Vice-Rector Dr. Inga Žalėnienė presented the MRU 2016-2021 Strategic Activity Plan to University Deans, Vice-Deans and MRU LAB Heads. One of the main goals mentioned was to establish MRU internationally as a significant national science leader. According to Vice-Rector Žalėnienė, in order to reach these ambitious plans, it is necessary to consistently undertake international, disciplinary, interdisciplinary, fundamental and applied research. Also University research and projects should be oriented towards priorities in Lithuania's development strategies and programmes. The Vice-Rector presented results of Lithuania's Research Council's evaluations of university social sciences and also the Research and Higher Education Monitoring and Analysis Centre (MOSTA) evaluation of various MRU Faculties. In her presentation, the Vice-Rector discussed about decreasing numbers of lecturers and the need to balance this tendency as well as the state of doctoral studies at the University. She singled out postdoctoral internships as a priority. The need for closer cooperation between Faculties/Institutes and Laboratories was stressed with development of research-based studies. Dr. Žalėnienė said it is especially important to increase publication of research results in publications that are included in the „Thomson Reuters Web of Science“ and "Scopus“ databases. The priority should be on joint publication with foreign partners in journals that are internationally recognised and in monographs. Regarding projects, she stressed the importance of increasing national and international projects, research-on-demand, and the increasing quality of expert consultations and their scope. She said that compared with 2015, this year there was a noticeable increase in proposals according to the Erasmus+ programme. She also reviewed the number of MRU employees participating in projects in 2016 and presented information about used project funds outlined according to expenditures. One of the immediate goals, that she mentioned, was the need to expand the number of academic personnel involved in international professional thematic networks, sitting on boards of research journals and belonging to national and international research programme expert panels.
