Law Faculty Project ‘Literature Ct’ Proving Popular with Pupils
MRU Law Faculty, together with the VAGA bookstore network, is presenting a unique 'Literature Court' project for pupils whereby well-known characters from literature are put on trial. Already, in the 6-part series, characters from the books of Albert Camus' 'Stranger' and William Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' have been put on trial. Some of the events are held at the VAGA bookstore in the OZAS shopping center in Vilnius. The General Prosecutor's Office of Lithuania is also involved in the unusual project bringing together book lovers, pupils, youth and MRU Law Faculty professors and academics. Using Lithuania's Criminal Code, the characters from books are put to the test in a mock trial. It is a chance to look at a book character from a unique perspective by way of analysis and intrepretation. We're seeking not only to encourage youth to read but also to show that a book is alive and can be interpreted from various points, says Literature Court organizer VAGA Director Vytas Petrošius. According to MRU Law Faculty project coordinator Inga Mickevičiūtė, the project shows that Law is not a boring, just poring-over-books subject matter. Legal knowledge is necessary for everyone in today's society, she added.
