Joint Master’s Programme Social Policy COSOPO Lectures Held at MRU
September 19th-30th, 2016, joint Master's Degree "Comparative Social Policy and Welfare," (COSOPO) programme lectures were held at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). The joint degree is implemented together with partners, Finland's University of Tampere and Austria's Johannes Kepler University Linz. There were 30 students from Argentina, Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, Chile, Finland, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Ghana, Lithuania, and Mexico that attended the intensive introductory lecture series on campus. Lectures covered a variety of topics including welfare models in Eastern Europe, Northern countries, Liberal welfare states, social research methodology and ethics. MRU and partner University lecturers presented lectures including: Prof. Margitta Maetzke, Prof. Dr. Liisä Häikiö, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harald Stöger, dr. Hanna-Kaisa Hoppania, Dr. Vida Česnuitytė, Dainius Bernotas and Inga Gaižauskaitė. One of the invited lecturers, MRU Public Administration Institute Prof. Arvydas Guogis acquainted students with Lithuania's welfare state modeling methodology aspects and changes. Another lecturer, programme graduate Evelina Meškinytė discussed the experience of COSOPO programme studies, the challenges and talked about career possibilities after graduation. Students had the chance to visit the Seimas and meet Seimas member Prof. Dr. Giedrė Purvaneckienė as well as meet with officials from the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson.
