Film Premiere of Sidewalk (Šaligatvis) Held at MRU
September 26th, 2016, the documentary film Šaligatvis (Sidewalk) was premiered at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). There was a chance to meet the film-making group and Director Julius Dautartas. The film deals with the journey of Pranas Kalibatas who left for the U.S. from the Žvirblėnai village some 80 years ago. The entire village collected money for his journey. Pranas never forgot his fellow villagers and sent shoes and other goods to friends and relatives back home. Later he financed construction of a sidewalk for the villagers so they don't get their feet muddy. The 55-minute film detailed life in the village as the locals slowly die out leaving only Kamilė and Kazimieras there. They oversee one of the few or only sidewalks in a Lithuanian village at that time. This documentary film is participating in the International Vilnius Documentary Film Festival. Creators of the film include Dautartas, Panevėžys journalist Skirmantas Pabedinskas and Editor Zinaida Paškevičienė.
