Student – Judo Athlete Lekavičius Wins Gold at EUSA Games
Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) student and judo athlete Žilvinas Lekavičius won a gold medal at the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Games in Croatia that were held July 12th-25th. About 5,000 athletes, representing 403 universities from 41 countries, participated in the Games held in Zagreb and Rijeka. The Lithuanian delegation included 162 athletes representing 10 universities in Lithuania. Students competed for medals in 21 different sports. Lithuanian student athletes competed in 13 sports including basketball, chess, judo and others. Lekavičius, coached by Algis Mečkovskis, won a gold in the judo category (weight up to 100 kg) and was overjoyed. He said his opponents were strong and he ended up in the finals due to good tactics. The 2016 MRU Women's Basketball Team, coached by Algirdas Budėnas, who were the Lithuanian Student Basketball League (LSKL) champions, came in 10th of 16 teams.
