Univ Team From Poland Won European Mediation Tournament at MRU
Jan. 30th, the 3-member team from Poland's Jagiellonian University won $1,000 stipend after winning the European Mediation Tournament held at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).
The stipend, provided by the Intl Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR), will allow team members Jacek Czaja, Agnieszka Maja and Marta Samborska to participate in a U.S. tournament in Chicago to be held in March.
University of Warsaw's team from Poland came in 2nd. Team members Emilia Bernacka, Anna Kaszynska and Paulina Kowalska were awarded a World Mediation Organization Virtual Internship.
The team from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine came in 3rd. Team members Julia Kril, Olga Bezverkha and Veronika Stadnyk were awarded a WMO Peace and Conflict Journalistm Course.
Teams from 14 universities in 10 countries participated in the Mediation Tournament.
There were several teams from Lithuania including those from Vilnius University (VU), Vytautas Magnus University and MRU.
U.S. lawyer and mediator Richard M. Calkins from Iowa, President of INADR, presented a 2-day mediation workshop to students.
It was the first time that the event was held in Lithuania. Previous venues included Australia, Brazil and Singapore.
