March 18th, 2015, Kazakhstan's L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University Lecturer Dr. Julia Shapoval lectured on "Religious Conversion in Contemporary Kazakhstan: The Tension Between Freedom of Conscious and National Security."

The lecture was part of the Religion and Citizenship international seminars that were held on MRU's campus.

Lecturers from the University of Edinburgh, Vilnius University (VU), Kaunas' Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) and other universities came together to consider the interrelation of political, civil and religious issues in Central and Eastern European countries.

Seminars were designed as an interdisciplinary platform for sociologists of religion, legal scholars, theologians, sociologists and philosophers to discuss the role and place of religion for citizens, civil institutions and the state in Central and East European societies.

Seminars take place twice a month beginning in March 2015 and consist of a 30-minute lecture, a 15-minute response to the primary lecture and 40 minutes of open discussion.
