Jan. 13th, 2015, Mykolas Romeris University Institute of Political Sciences Prof. Gintaras Aleknonis was unanimously elected Senate Chairman during a first meeting of the Senate.

"The University Senate has deep traditions, which we will adhere to in the future," the new Chairman said.

"Higher education in Lithuania is in a complex position. There are many challenges, which we must be ready for and together retain stability," Prof. Aleknonis added.

Prof. Aleknonis has been a member of the Senate since 2009 and served as Vice-Chairman.

He began his career at MRU in 2005, when he was selected by competition to serve as Assoc. Prof. in the then so-called Faculty of Strategic Management & Policy. From 2006-2008 he served as University Chancellor and from 2008-2010 he was Dean of the Faculty of Strategic Management & Policy.

From 2010-2013 he was Head of the Political Sciences Dept. in the Faculty of Politics and Management. From 2013 he has been a Professor at the Institute of Political Sciences.
